How to help your child prepare
Your student has been working very hard in music class learning the songs. However, only having music every 4th school day isn't the best rehearsal schedule. :) And with all the snow days this year, we've lost some music class time. This blog contains video sing-a-longs for every song in the show. Encouraging your child to visit this blog in their free time would be a wonderful way to reinforce what they've been learning in class.
Some students have been selected for speaking parts. These students have been sent home with a script so they can begin learning their lines. If your child came home with a letter about their part and a script, please take the time and read through it with them. This will help them understand the story better and how their character fits in. I would like everyone to try and memorize their lines. That being said, I will be right there to remind anyone of their part if their memory slips. :)
I've also included a link to the PDF file of the script so you can view it online. It is on the right side of the page, above the Pinterest link.
What your child should wear
Costumes are fun, but not required. I have placed a link to my Pinterest page on the right side of this blog. It will give you some ideas if you choose to make or purchase a costume.
If your child has been assigned a specific role (see the post below), most of these are self-explanatory. A pig will wear pink, a cow will wear white & black, etc. This idea is spelled out further below.
Cows: Brown or black/white clothes. A t-shirt would be fine but a sweat suit would work as well. White felt could be glued on with fabric glue or a hot glue gun to give it the appearance of spots.
Chickens: Yellow/white shirts or sweat suits would work well. Feather boas would work to give the appearance of feathers. If the sweat shirt has a hood, felt pieces can be cut out and glued to the top to give the appearance of the "red on the head" look.
Pigs: Pink t-shirts or sweat suits. The pigs in this story love to clean and are never stinky or messy. If you'd like to include accessories, a feather duster or small broom could be appropriate.
Goats: Gray t-shirts or sweat suits. Our goats are gourmet chefs in this story so any chef hats or aprons would be great!
The night of the show
Students may begin arriving around 6:10pm on the night of their performance. The doors WILL NOT OPEN until 6:10pm. Security for our after-school YMCA students is a priority and we must give them time to exit the building properly before we enter. Once in the building, your student may walk to his classroom where a teacher/adult will supervise them until the show. You may find a seat in the cafeteria and wait for the show to begin. All siblings and other children must be supervised at all times and should remain in the cafeteria. Our custodians will be busy working in other areas of the building. After the show, Family Night at West will begin at 7:00. This is a part of Right-to-Read Week. You are welcome to either stay for this or leave after the show.
I'm SO excited for you to see your child perform!!! Please feel free to email me with any questions!
